Welcome to our Workshop on Artificial Intelligence for Road Safety, a dedicated event bringing together researchers, students, industry experts, and policymakers to explore how artificial intelligence can transform the future of road safety and mobility. The workshop serves as a collaborative platform to share innovative ideas, research findings, and real-world applications in areas such as intelligent transportation systems, driver assistance technologies, and accident prevention strategies.

In Morocco, road safety has become an urgent national priority. In 2024, the country recorded 4,024 traffic-related fatalities, an increase of about 5.4% compared to the previous year, along with more than 143,000 bodily-injury accidents, up by 16% from 2023. These alarming statistics highlight the pressing need for data-driven and technology-based interventions to improve traffic management, reduce human error, and enhance road infrastructure safety.

Against this backdrop, the workshop emphasizes the crucial role of artificial intelligence in addressing these challenges. Through discussions on risk detection, traffic flow optimization, and advanced safety monitoring, participants will explore how AI—through machine learning, computer vision, data analytics, and connected vehicle systems—can significantly reduce accidents and improve decision-making in transportation. By fostering collaboration between academia, industry, and government, the event aims to support our country’s broader vision for safer, smarter, and more sustainable mobility.
